A Natale mi è stato regalato il libro di Gianluca Gotto: Succede sempre qualcosa di meraviglioso. L’amico che me l’ha regalato mi disse che gli aveva ricordato molto la mia storia, così aveva preso una copia anche per me. L’ho letto in un mese, spesso in notti insonni, e devo dire che sì, è vero: quando la tua nuova Vita deve nascere, quella vecchia deve essere disintegrata. Dovrai aprire le mani per lasciare andare persone, situazioni, desideri e tutto quello che pensavi potesse essere insostituibile. Tabula rasa, con o senza il tuo consenso, meno fai resistenza meno ti fai male. Quel processo andrà avanti e l’unica tua scelta è quella di non starci troppo a soffrire. Nel libro spiega molto bene questo concetto, e la differenza tra dolore e sofferenza.
Detto questo, l’articolo di oggi è una provocazione ed un invito a riguardare dentro casa, alla ricchezza spirituale di cui siamo figli, delle nostre radici Cristiane. Spesso intanto che leggevo, ho pensato: “embè questo lo dice anche Gesù!” specialmente riguardo alle regole che gli dava la sua guida, che a sua volta gli aveva dato il suo maestro. Ma sappiate che se cercate un maestro, Gesù è il Divin Maestro, l’over the top delle guide spirituali.
Sono un po’ di anni che giro in differenti ambienti, e percepisco che c’è una vera e propria fame di spiritualità e Pace, questo non è un caso: siamo umani. L’essere umano è una creatura di Dio che ci creda o no, e quel richiamo ancestrale del divino lo conferma. E quindi visto che siamo ricchi a casa nostra, perché non riscoprire quella bella eredità spirituale che abbiamo: il Cristianesimo.
Sicuramente mi potreste dare mille motivazioni diverse e negative sulla Chiesa, che oltretutto siamo tutti noi battezzati in Cristo Gesù, mi va di specificarlo perché in molti pensano che siano solo i sacerdoti e le suore. Che dire, ritornate se siete in cerca di Pace e assetati di spiritualità, tornate a quella fonte che mai si esaurisce e sempre disseta, ritornate a Gesù Cristo.
Lascio alcune frasi di Gesù che mi hanno fatto ripensare a quelle che ho letto nel libro di Gianluca Gotto:
-i gigli del campo per sconfiggere le preoccupazioni: Vangelo Mt 6, 25-29
Perciò io vi dico: non preoccupatevi per la vostra vita, di quello che mangerete o berrete, né per il vostro corpo, di quello che indosserete; la vita non vale forse più del cibo e il corpo più del vestito? 26Guardate gli uccelli del cielo: non seminano e non mietono, né raccolgono nei granai; eppure il Padre vostro celeste li nutre. Non valete forse più di loro? 27E chi di voi, per quanto si preoccupi, può allungare anche di poco la propria vita? 28E per il vestito, perché vi preoccupate? Osservate come crescono i gigli del campo: non faticano e non filano. 29Eppure io vi dico che neanche Salomone, con tutta la sua gloria, vestiva come uno di loro.
-l’amore che abbraccia tutto, anche i nemici. La Pace e la benevolenza che sono l’unica soluzione nei momenti di sofferenza: Vangelo Lc 6, 35-38
35 Amate invece i vostri nemici, fate del bene e prestate senza sperarne nulla, e il vostro premio sarà grande e sarete figli dell’Altissimo; perché egli è benevolo verso gl’ingrati e i malvagi.
36 Siate misericordiosi, come è misericordioso il Padre vostro. 37 Non giudicate e non sarete giudicati; non condannate e non sarete condannati; perdonate e vi sarà perdonato; 38 date e vi sarà dato; una buona misura, pigiata, scossa e traboccante vi sarà versata nel grembo, perché con la misura con cui misurate, sarà misurato a voi in cambio».
Questi due frammenti hanno raggruppato molte frasi guida del libro di Gotto, che spero vi diano lo stimolo di leggere e approfondire da soli, e pregandoci chissà che non vi si riveli la ricchezza spirituale che contengono.
JESUS AND ZEN
At Christmas, I was given Gianluca Gotto’s book: Something wonderful always happens. The friend who gave it to me said that it reminded him a lot of my story, so he got a copy for me too. I read it in a month, often during sleepless nights, and I have to say that yes, it’s true: when your new life is about to begin, your old one must be broken down. You will have to open your hands to let go of people, situations, desires and everything you thought was irreplaceable. Tabula rasa, with or without your consent, the less you resist, the less you hurt yourself. That process will continue, and your only choice is not to dwell on it too much and suffer. The book explains this concept very well, as well as the difference between pain and suffering.
That said, today’s article is a provocation and an invitation to look inside our homes, at the spiritual wealth we have inherited from our Christian roots. While reading, I often thought, “Well, Jesus says that too!”, especially regarding the rules given to him by his guide, who in turn had received them from his master. But know that if you are looking for a master, Jesus is the Divine Master, the ultimate spiritual guide.
I have been travelling in different circles for a few years now, and I sense that there is a real hunger for spirituality and peace. This is no coincidence: we are human. Human beings are creatures of God, whether we believe it or not, and that ancestral call of the divine confirms it. So, since we are rich in our own home, why not rediscover that beautiful spiritual heritage we have: Christianity.
Surely you could give me a thousand different negative reasons about the Church, but we are all baptised in Christ Jesus, and I want to specify this because many people think that only priests and nuns are. What can I say? Come back if you are seeking peace and thirsting for spirituality. Come back to that source that never runs dry and always quenches your thirst. Come back to Jesus Christ.
I leave you with some words of Jesus that made me think back to what I read in Gianluca Gotto’s book:
-the lilies of the field to defeat worries: Gospel of Matthew 6:25-29
Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear; is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26Look at the birds of the air: they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth more than they? 27And which of you, however much you worry, can add a single hour to your life? 28And why do you worry about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow: they do not labour or spin. 29Yet I tell you that even Solomon, in all his glory, was not clothed like one of these.
-love that embraces everything, even enemies. Peace and benevolence are the only solution in times of suffering: Gospel of Luke 6:35-38
35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend without expecting anything in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. 37 Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; 38 give, and it will be given to you; a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be poured into your lap, for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.
These two excerpts bring together many guiding phrases from Gotto’s book, which I hope will inspire you to read and explore it for yourselves, praying that its spiritual riches may be revealed to you.
